Journey Of Author

Kanchan Banerjee was born in a small village of  West Bengal, India, where he had the first-hand experience of the Communist movements, including the rise of the Left Front and Naxalism. He also has excellent experience through his interaction with the Muslim community in his native place in Barddhaman. Later, he moved to the USA to study Computer science.

As it happens with anybody living far away from his or her native place, he also feels a deeper connection to the roots. From far Kanchan could see India in a different light. The India of the past, invaded, colonized, yet survived along with its cultural history and heritage.

Kanchan Banerjee author

He started questioning many facts about India learned from textbooks in India and the West, media, and literature. That’s when he began researching and studying Indian history in world contexts to determine why Indians are so naïve about their past and completely callous about their future and the way out for India to become. He asked why India is poor despite vast resources  – both human, intellectual, and natural. India was one of the wealthiest nations in the world for millennia.  Why about a third of India’s population is still poor and illiterate. This book is a result of that quest.

Kanchan is a Yoga teacher and gives workshops and talks on yoga and integrative health. He is also an Ayurvedic enthusiast and believes in a natural way of living. Protection of the environment is his natural tendency. He believes that life is beautiful when there is harmony between nature and humans. He is against any so-called development which disturbs this harmony.

He is concerned that much of India’s bio-diversity is destroyed in the name of development. Both internal and external forces also compromise India’s cultural diversity by imposing monolithic ideas and ideals on the population. And the fundamental forces which are working against the land and people is the Neo-Colonists which Kanchan calls NeoCols, is his major concern.

Politically he is a follower of Netaji Subhas Bose, and spiritually he is initiated by his Guru Jagadish Chandra Sanyal at the age of 11, who has been a direct disciple of Sri Aurobindo during his revolutionary days. And of course, he is daily inspired by two great personalities of India, Swami Vivekananda, and Rabindranath.

The author has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Barddhaman University and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Boston University. He is a well-known Hindu and Indian-American social leader who has initiated and has been supporting many Indian and Hindu organizations in the US and worldwide to understand the heritage of India better.

He was the Editor in Chief of an international magazine and portal called New Global Indian, which he started along with his wife Haimanti in 2008. He has been a prolific writer as well as an inspirational speaker who has travelled to many countries, including Canada, South Africa, Japan, UK, and Thailand.
